The earth’s rhythms ebb and flow, yet the pace and structure of modern life often leave us feeling disconnected from nature’s cycles. The busy hustle can make living seasonally feel like yet another thing to cram into our overstuffed calendars. But what if embracing the seasons didn’t mean adding more to your overflowing plate?
Whether you observe the Wheel of the Year or follow seasonal shifts more loosely, it alters the way we experience and engage with time. Living in alignment with the seasons shouldn’t feel like a chore or something additional on your already full plate. Rather than a rigid checklist of dates and to-dos, it’s an invitation to build a deeper relationship with the lands that surround you, to notice the subtle shifts. Rather than dates on a calendar, we make space to observe the signs of the seasons in the world around us and within us. The sticky mess of the poplar buds burst forth as their sweet smell hangs heavy in the air. Fireflies dance and shimmer on humid summer nights. The first frost of an autumn morning.
True seasonal living arises from listening to the whispers of your inner landscape and the terrain you call home. It’s not about stressing to squeeze in seasonal practices, but uncovering which ones harmonize with your current capacity and interest—melding the earthly calendars and your biorhythms with the reality of life’s responsibilities.
So let the dates and rigid prescribed activities fall away. Instead, ask how you can bring your work, relationships, and wellness into sympathy with each season’s essence. What nourishes you as the wheel turns? How can you align your personal cycles with nature’s cadences?
When you approach the seasons this way, living in flow becomes not another chore, but a sacred reclamation of your equilibrium. A gentle realignment to the primordial rhythms that birth all life.
To begin this practice of noticing in a way that works with our current capacity and interest as we work towards more alignment with the rhythm of the seasons, pick an activity that you enjoy (cooking, journaling, drawing, photography, etc.) and observe the seasons and shifts through that lens.
For example, if you choose cooking, try noticing the flavors, textures, or recipes you’re drawn to during each season. If you decide to draw, perhaps you visit a favorite spot throughout the year and observe changes that way.
If you’re drawn to journaling or pondering, these questions may offer a starting point for your reflections:
- How does this season make me feel? What is coming up for me?
- What can I learn from this season?
- What do I need (more or less of) to be supported during this season & its energy?
- How can I deepen my connection to my environment or community during this time? What practices or rituals am I feeling drawn to in this season?
For those yearning for deeper seasonal alignment, I’m thrilled to announce that my immersive “Align: Personalized Planning Journey” is now open.
In this journey, you’ll be guided to:
